Answer
Any DNS server, public or private, can be used. The option is given so as to not overwhelm private servers with DNS queries.
Some examples of public DNS servers:
- Google: 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4
- Control D: 76.76.2.0 & 76.76.10.0
- Quad9: 9.9.9.9 & 149.112.112.112
- OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220
- CloudFlare: 1.1.1.1 & 1.0.0.1
