Do I need to upgrade Plesk license to use it on Plesk Onyx or Obsidian?

NOTE: In case you purchased your license from one of the Plesk resellers/partners, please refer to the reseller/partner. In case you are a Plesk Partner or purchased your license in Plesk online store/cleverbridge, see your options below.

 

There are 2 different types of Plesk licenses: perpetual (purchased) and lease licenses. What is the difference between lease and purchased licenses?

1. Upgrade process for perpetual licenses.

A perpetual license should have active SUS (Software Update Service) in order to be upgraded. SUS is optional and is active for 1 year.

 

1.1. For Plesk Partners

If SUS is active, a license will be automatically upgraded during a panel upgrade.

If manual license upgrade is required it can be done through Key Administrator (Partner Central) account.

If SUS is expired, it can be reinstated through Key Administrator (Partner Central) account or with a quote. For any assistance please contact your sales representative.

 

1.2. For Retail Customers

If SUS is active, a license will be automatically upgraded during a panel upgrade.

If manual license upgrade is required please contact Sales Team.

If SUS is expired, SUS reinstatement should be ordered through the following direct link: https://www.plesk.com/pricing#software-update-service.

2. Upgrade process for lease licenses.

Plesk domain-based lease licenses (Plesk 10.x/11.x and Later) and edition-based licenses (Web Admin, Web Pro, Web Host) do not require to be upgraded. 

 

2.1. For Plesk Partners

Lease licenses for an older Plesk versions will be automatically upgraded during a panel upgrade.

If manual license upgrade is required please log into your Key Administrator (Partner Central) account and check license upgrade options. For any questions, please contact your sales representative.

 

2.2. For Retail Customers

Lease licenses for an older Plesk versions will be automatically upgraded during a panel upgrade.
